Products & Lead Times

We unfortunately do not keep stock on site. All our orders are handmade and made to order by our skilled team of craftsmen.

We use a combination of Pine, Pine Ply and MDF (Supawood) as well as hardwood dowels for the climbing rungs of our Piklers.  

In short - Yes, they are!

Let's chat about our paint first. We use a luxurious satin water-based Poly-urethane enamel perfect for hard-wearing surfaces with exceptional durability and strength, as tested by many robust and rebellious toddlers. This product has a beautiful satin mid-sheen finish and crucially, s odourless, lead-free and environmentally friendly so it is safe to use in nurseries and on your little one's favourite toys.

We use a premium quality water-based varnish with low odour and low VOC. It has built-in UV stabilisers and preservatives to protect and increase the lifespan of wooden materials. It helps to seal and protects against moisture with excellent wear resistance.

We use a phenomenal South African-made product by the Cape Town-based ProNature to seal all our outdoor products from Mud Kitchens to Sensory Play Tables.

Their products are 'non-toxic, VOC-free, ecologically sound, which is harmless to the health of humans, animals and the eco-system which makes them perfect for use on kid's products and its kind to our environment too! The finish is velvety smooth so whilst these products are used outdoors they are smooth to the touch for the softest littlest hands.

Not just yet, although we do have big plans for something exciting along these lines in the future. 

Our workshop is based in Lekkerwater Road and we usually have a few pieces you can have a look at (and say hello to us!) - you are always welcome to pop in for a visit. 

Our lead times are generally around 3 weeks for most products eg. Learning Towers, Pikler Range etc. and 4-5 weeks for our larger pieces eg. Cube Units and Playhouse Shelf Units. 

If you have a special celebration coming up that you need an urgent gift for or find yourself in a panic for a product please reach out to us, we will always do our best to help where we can.

We will always make sure to keep you in the loop but where possible please allow plenty of time for orders to be made and delivered in time for your special occasions!

Assembly & Delivery

This varies, some of our products will need assembly at home in which case we will provide a very simple step-by-step assembly guide for you along with any hardware you will need.  You may need to arrange for a friend to help with some of the larger products.

Products delivered in Cape Town will usually be delivered fully assembled through a lovely local courier company.   Kindly note, this excludes outlying areas - please reach out to us if you would like to check if you fall under an outlying area or we will need to pop an invoice over to you for the balance after your order has been placed).   

We ship all across South Africa from dorpies to big cities.  We have also helped clients sending orders abroad so please do get in touch and let's see how we can help.

Yes, you are welcome to collect from our Workshop in Capri, Fish Hoek (this option is of course free).

We will be in touch as soon as we are ready for you to collect your order from us to make the necessary arrangements with you.

An email confirmation will be sent once your order has been successfully placed through our online store. 

Our Customer Care team will be in touch to welcome you on board so you will always have a contact to reach out to for any updates or questions you may have. 

Our lead time is around 3 weeks on most of our products however we do ask for approx. 4 weeks for larger pieces like our Cube Units or large bookshelves. 

Once your order is ready to be shipped you’ll receive a shipping confirmation email with your tracking details or we'll let you know that your order is ready for collection from us here at the Workshop.

Yes as long as we haven't shipped your order. Please take care to ensure the shipping details are correct or let us know as quickly as possible if there are any changes to the address details as we won't be able to re-route your package once it is already on its way to you.

We use a selection of trusted third-party couriers to deliver your products to you. Please note that delivery rates are based on delivery to all SA main centres and outlying areas will need to be quoted separately — please feel free to reach out if you would like to check what category your address will fall under.

We have broken down our products by size categories for shipping (excluding outlying areas).  Here are a few examples of our popular products to give you an idea of the breakdown;

Newly added - Learning Tower Premium Delivery:  Your Learning Tower will arrive fully assembled, you will simply need to attach the step to your Learning Tower using the screws provided.  This is only relevant to those living outside of the main suburbs of Cape Town where we will deliver your Learning Tower fully assembled as part of the standard delivery fee.  This cost includes the high-quality double wall box and foam packaging to assist in its safe transportation.  The dimensions for this bespoke box are approx.  54 x 54 x 102cm

A waybill (tracking) number will be sent out to you once your order is ready to be shipped along with a link to the courier track and trace page so you can follow its progress once it leaves our workshop. 

Please ensure that you or the person receiving your order personally inspects the package on arrival to ensure there is no visible damage on arrival before you sign for it.

If in the unfortunate and unlikely instance that you then open your package to discover that your product is damaged please take photos of both the packaging and product that will provide as much visual information for us on the damage.  Please report this to us within 24hrs in writing with the photographs attached to us by emailing hello@grandpasworkshop.co.za

The details and photographs will help inform whether we are perhaps able to assist with a replacement part of your product rather than the shipment and replacement of the product in full which will take place at our own discretion.

Any returned items must be in the original condition, unassembled and unused with original packaging or in suitable similar packaging.

Any approved returns will be shipped via our couriers free of charge. We will take responsibility for booking the collection with our couriers. Replacements can only be made once we have determined that there was a manufacturer defect or damage caused during transit. Items that are received with shipping damage will be replaced with the same item at no charge, subject to stock availability.  There may be a manufacture delay while the replacement product is handmade if there is no stock available. If it is discovered on inspection that the returned merchandise is not defective or damaged, or the damage has been at the negligence of the customer then the customer will be liable for all shipping costs.
